Copyright & Intellectual Property

1. Who owns what?
In short: you own your content, and we own PlacePins itself (the brand, design and code).
When we say “PlacePins” on this page, we mean the PlacePins website, apps, services and any future official tools we provide.
2. Your content
“Your content” means anything you post or upload to PlacePins, including (without limitation) text, images, audio, event details, links, chat messages and other material.
- You keep all rights you have in your content.
- You are responsible for making sure you have the right to post it.
- You must not post anything that infringes someone else’s rights.
2.1 Licence you give to us
By posting or uploading content to PlacePins, you grant us a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to:
- host, store and display your content,
- reproduce it and create derivative works (for example, resized images or cached copies),
- modify it in minor ways needed for technical reasons (for example, compression, reformatting),
- publish and distribute it via PlacePins and any official features (including APIs, widgets and previews),
- use it to promote PlacePins (for example, screenshots that show pins on the map).
This licence exists only to allow PlacePins to function and grow. We do not sell your content as a standalone product.
The licence lasts for as long as your content is available on PlacePins and for a reasonable period afterwards in back-ups, logs and archives needed for:
- technical reliability,
- security and abuse investigation,
- legal and regulatory compliance.
3. Our content and technology
PlacePins, including but not limited to the name, logo, visual design, layout, look and feel, underlying databases, code, and any proprietary algorithms, is protected by copyright, trade mark and other intellectual property rights.
You agree that you will not, without our prior written permission:
- copy significant parts of PlacePins (other than for normal use of the Service or where allowed by law),
- modify or create derivative works based on the PlacePins code or design,
- reverse engineer, decompile or attempt to extract the source code (except where this is allowed by law and only to the extent of that permission),
- use our logos or branding in a way that suggests an official partnership or endorsement.
4. Your use of PlacePins
You are welcome to link to PlacePins, embed screenshots of your own pins, and talk about us online. In fact, please do – that’s how small products grow.
However, you may not:
- scrape or harvest large amounts of data from PlacePins without our written permission,
- republish substantial portions of the map or database,
- resell access to PlacePins or its content as your own service.
5. Trade marks
The PlacePins name and logos (including the main logo, favicon and mini icon) are trade marks or unregistered trade marks of the PlacePins Operator. You may not use them without our permission except for fair, descriptive use (for example, “Find us on PlacePins” with a link).
6. Reporting copyright concerns
If you believe that content on PlacePins infringes your copyright or other intellectual property rights, please email placepins@placepins.com with:
- your name and contact details,
- a description of the content you believe is infringing,
- where it appears on PlacePins (URL or screenshots),
- why you believe it infringes your rights,
- any supporting documentation you can provide.
We may ask for additional information to verify your claim. We aim to respond promptly and fairly, but we are not able to offer legal advice.
7. Changes to this page
We may update this Copyright page from time to time. We will post the new version on this page with a new “Last updated” date. If the changes are significant, we may also mention them in other parts of the site.
8. Questions
If you have any questions about copyright or intellectual property on PlacePins, email us at placepins@placepins.com.
This page is a practical explanation and does not replace legal advice. Please consult a lawyer for formal advice about your intellectual property.
