Terms of Use

Short version: don’t break the law, don’t spam, don’t abuse other people, and don’t try to break PlacePins. By using PlacePins you agree to these rules.

These Terms of Use (“Terms”) set out the rules for using the PlacePins website and Service (“PlacePins”, “we”, “us”). By accessing or using PlacePins, you agree to be bound by these Terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the Service.

1. About PlacePins

PlacePins is a map-based platform where users can create and view time-limited “pins” (posts) attached to real-world locations.

These Terms are between you (“you”, “user”) and the operator of PlacePins (the “Operator”). The identity of the Operator will be updated on this page once the company is formally incorporated.

2. Eligibility

• You must be at least 13 years old to use PlacePins.
• If you are under 18, you should only use PlacePins with the knowledge of a parent or guardian.
• By using PlacePins, you confirm that you have the legal capacity to enter into these Terms in your jurisdiction.

3. Your account and identity

PlacePins currently uses a lightweight identity model based on email addresses, magic links, OTP codes and (optionally) OAuth logins instead of traditional passwords.

• You are responsible for keeping access to your email account secure.
• You must not share or misuse magic links or OTP codes sent to you.
• You must not pretend to be another person, company or organisation.

4. Creating and managing pins

You can create pins without a full account, provided you give a valid email address and complete any required payment steps.

• You are responsible for the content of your pins, including text, links, images, audio, live-video links and any associated events.
• You must ensure your pins are accurate, lawful and do not mislead people.
• You may hide or archive your pins via the owner dashboard, but copies may persist in backups and logs for a reasonable period.

5. Acceptable use

You agree that you will not use PlacePins to:

• Break any law or regulation.
• Post content that is fraudulent, misleading, defamatory, hateful, harassing, threatening, or otherwise abusive.
• Post content that is pornographic or sexually explicit.
• Post content that promotes violence, terrorism, or extremist views.
• Post content that infringes someone else’s intellectual property or other rights.
• Spam or flood the map with repetitive or low-quality pins.
• Scrape, harvest or attempt to copy large amounts of data from PlacePins without our permission.
• Try to bypass or interfere with security protections, rate limits or technical restrictions.
• Reverse engineer, decompile or attempt to derive the source code of PlacePins where this is not permitted by law.

6. Content ownership and licence

You keep any intellectual property rights you have in the content you post to PlacePins.

By posting content, you grant us a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to host, use, reproduce, modify, adapt, publish, translate, create derivative works from, distribute, perform and display that content in connection with operating, improving and promoting PlacePins. This licence continues for as long as your content is on the Service and for a reasonable period afterwards for back-ups, audits and legal purposes.

You confirm that:

• you have the necessary rights to grant this licence, and
• your content does not infringe any third-party rights.

7. Paid pins, payments and refunds

PlacePins offers free and paid pins. Free pins are limited in duration and features (for example, they may be text-only and expire after 24 hours). Paid pins may include images, embeds, audio, live video hooks, featured placement and longer visibility, according to the options shown at the time of purchase.

Payments are processed by third-party providers (for example, Stripe). By making a payment, you also agree to their terms and privacy policies.

Prices, packages and features may change over time. We aim to be clear about what you are buying at the time of purchase.

Refunds are at our discretion unless required by law. If you believe you are entitled to a refund, please contact us at placepins@placepins.com.

8. Links and third-party services

Pins may contain links to third-party websites, services and platforms (such as YouTube, TikTok, WhatsApp, Facebook Messenger, Zoom or Google Maps). These services are not controlled by us.

• We are not responsible for the content, availability or policies of third-party sites.
• Your use of third-party services is at your own risk and subject to their terms and privacy policies.

9. Service availability

We work hard to keep PlacePins up and running, but we cannot guarantee it will always be available or free from errors.

• We may change, suspend or discontinue parts of the Service at any time.
• We may need to temporarily disable features for maintenance or security reasons.

10. Our rights to moderate and remove content

We may remove or restrict access to any pin, chat message or account-like identity if we reasonably believe that:

• it breaks these Terms or the law;
• it risks harm to other users, the public or our infrastructure;
• we are required to do so by law enforcement or regulators.

We are not obliged to monitor all content, but we may do so where needed to protect the Service and its users.

11. Intellectual property in PlacePins

The PlacePins name, logo, designs, code, database structure and overall look and feel are owned by us or our licensors. You must not copy, distribute, modify or create derivative works from PlacePins except as allowed by law or with our prior written permission.

12. Liability

Nothing in these Terms limits or excludes any liability that cannot be limited or excluded under applicable law, such as liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence or for fraud.

To the maximum extent permitted by law:

• PlacePins is provided “as is” and “as available” without any warranties of any kind, whether express or implied;
• we do not guarantee that PlacePins will be error-free, secure or always available;
• we are not responsible for:
  • loss of profits, revenue, business, or anticipated savings;
  • loss or corruption of data;
  • loss of goodwill or reputation;
  • indirect or consequential losses.
• our total liability to you arising out of or in connection with PlacePins and these Terms (whether in contract, tort or otherwise) will be limited to the greater of:
  • the total amount you have paid to us for paid pins in the 12 months before the claim, or
  • £50.

13. Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. When we do, we will post the new version on this page with a new “Last updated” date. If the changes are significant, we may also notify you by email or within the Service. Your continued use of PlacePins after the changes take effect means you accept the new Terms.

14. Governing law and jurisdiction

These Terms and any dispute or claim arising out of or in connection with them (including non-contractual disputes or claims) are governed by the laws of England and Wales.

You and we agree that the courts of England and Wales will have exclusive jurisdiction, except where local law in your country gives you the right to bring a claim in your local courts.
