It was designed by George Stephenson and opened in 1839 for the Birmingham and Derby Junction Railway. It remains in use and crosses the River Anker. It is a Grade II listed building.

Nash himself was the designer of the site, and began construction as early as 1798. It was completed in 1800 and was said to have been built at unlimited expense.
