The Donkin Memorial is a four-sided stone pyramid located in the Donkin Reserve, central Gqeberha, South Africa. It was constructed at the behest of Sir Rufane Donkin in memory of his wife Elizabeth Donkin née Markam, who died in India in 1818. The pyramid measures 10 metres (33 ft) high and is constructed of local stone. It was declared a national monument in 1938 by the South African Historical Monuments Commission.

UPE was founded on 31 January 1964, by an act of parliament, and held its first academic year in 1965. It offered bachelor's degrees, as well as masters and doctoral degrees. The university closed down in 2004, with its campuses forming part of the Nelson Mandela University, which opened in 2005.

The Horse Memorial is a provincial heritage site in Port Elizabeth in the Eastern Cape province of South Africa, in memory of the horses that served and died during the Second Boer War, where Britain brought a large number of horses to South Africa. Designed by Joseph Whitehead, the life-sized bronze memorial features a kneeling soldier presenting a bucket of water to a service horse.
